almost perfect

Posted : 4 months ago on 28 April 2008 09:31 (A review of Atonement)

The story is a romantic emotional one, taking place during the 1930s.

The film director has played the emotional card rather well, and I must say the sets, the decors and costumes are marvelous.

The actors were well cast, and is especially obvious through Briony.

I say "almost perfect" because Keira Knightley just doesn't appear to act properly for the time period. All other actors are quite decent, and seem well directed. But Keira...

Superb cinematography. The images are quite stunning.

Clearly one of the best of 2007.

not that great

Posted : 4 months ago on 28 April 2008 05:51 (A review of Awake)

The plot is simple, but reveals pretty much what is going to happen. As I don't want to spoil the movie for others, it's enough to say that 1 out of 700 people that undergo surgery find him/herself awake during the procedure, but unable to call for help.
If I divulge anything else, the script itself becomes obvious, so because of that, I found there were no surprises, no twists.

The acting sucks! Only Lena Olin is worth watching. Hayden Christensen and Jessica Alba are mind-blowingly bad. And Terrence Howard is possibly worse.

I found the premise very interesting, but it was, in my opinion, badly scripted - there are several plot holes.

Interesting to watch for the story, but no other reason really.

plot holes anybody?

Posted : 4 months ago on 28 April 2008 05:46 (A review of I Am Legend)

As Prelude clearly states in his review, there are tons of plot holes, from start to finish. He's mentioned the most important ones.
My problem with this film is also with the idea - it's such a simple plot: allegedly there is one last man in NYC after a virus wipes out everyone else; he's a doctor and wants to save the world by finding a cure to the virus.
The way the plot was handled could have been better, there were so many opportunities for it to sway, but there were no surprises, just the typical Hollywood trash.

As for the acting, I can't say Will Smith impressed me. Not a noteworthy performance.

I did like the fact that there weren't many actors, and that he does go nuts (clearly visible in the video store scenes) because he lacks a social environment.

Also, I found the Dark Seekers to be terribly badly done!!!! What a crappy CGI.

Hollywood-movie lovers, watch it, it's action-packed. If you're looking for some decent script and good acting, this was pretty lame, so stay away.

stellar performances

Posted : 4 months ago on 27 April 2008 07:16 (A review of Chicago)

Chicago is one of the best musicals ever.

Richard Gere, Renee Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Queen Latifah give stellar performances, and the music is simply astounding. And the direction is one of the best I've seen.

That's one movie I watch every year :)

the superhero

Posted : 4 months ago on 27 April 2008 06:45 (A review of Superman)

Superman is the superhero of all Superheroes. He can fly, can freeze things by blowing on them, has X-ray vision and has superhuman strength.
What else do you need?

Academy award winner

Posted : 4 months ago on 27 April 2008 06:44 (A review of Cabaret)

The score, the acting (Liza Minnelli's!) and the direction by Bob Fosse...
A winner of 8 - that's right 8 - Academy Awards, it must have done something right!

it will change your life

Posted : 4 months ago on 27 April 2008 01:20 (A review of Dead Poets Society)

To quote the dvd's back cover, "Robin Williams delivers an extraordinary performance in one of the most compelling motion pictures of all time." Let's not forget the amazing performances of Ethan Hawke and Robert Sean Leonard.
An unforgettable movie that changes not only the lives of the students in the film, but also the viewers'.

dance and love

Posted : 4 months ago on 27 April 2008 01:19 (A review of Dirty Dancing)

Splendid to watch, just for the dance scenes.
Jennifer Grey, and Patrick Swayze co-star brilliantly and majestically in this story about dance and love.
Superb soundtrack.

romance

Posted : 4 months ago on 27 April 2008 01:17 (A review of Ghost)

Combine a touching love story, with a supernatural tale, comedy and a little thriller: you've got Ghost.

Whoopi Goldberg, Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze's performances make this film a "must-see" romance.

superb

Posted : 4 months ago on 27 April 2008 01:16 (A review of Legends of the Fall)

The epic story of three brothers and a woman who changed their lives.

A superb cast: Aidan Quinn, Brad Pitt, Anthony Hopkins, Henry Thomas and Julia Ormond.

Brilliant direction. Splendid cinematography.
