MUCH BETTER THAN CELINE !

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 14 May 2007 09:04 (A review of Lara Fabian)

I have to admit that I grew up listening to Celine's French music, though I'm not a big fan of female singers. When I first heard Lara's French song "Tout" (from the album "Pure") back in 1998, I realized that there were better singers out there than Celine.

Compared to Celine's, Lara's voice is natural, never does it sound fake. This first English album is not her best one yet. (I believe the French album "Pure" is much better !)

The ballads on this "Lara Fabian" album are quite romantic, pleasant to hear and passionate. Lara puts as much voice, love and talent as she can in all the languages she sings. I look forward to an Italian album !

Lara is finally getting out of the French market, coming out strongly on the American market, which is wonderful : she is one of the most talented female singers of our time.

Obispo at his best

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 13 May 2007 07:39 (A review of Soledad)

Being a fan of Obispo ever since his previous album "Un jour comme aujourd'hui" - featuring his hit song "Tombé pour elle" - I was surprised at this album.

"Soledad" has a Latin sound. Having worked with some of the best French composers - Etienne Roda-Gil, Lionel Florence, Didier Golemanas, Patrice Guirao and Pierre Jaconelli - Pascal Obispo offers a music that is completely different from any of his previous albums. Don't get me wrong : on "Soledad" he still sings about life and love !

This is a beautiful album to listen to, lyrically and musically speaking. My favorite tracks are #3 (for the music) and #8 (for the lyrics).

Tracklist:
1. Par absence
2. Soledad
3. Tue par amour
4. Pas besoin de regrets
5. L'important c'est d'aimer
6. Vivre ici...
7. Si et seul'ment seul
8. Ce qu'on voit, Allee Rimbaud
9. Neil Armstrong ou Gagarine
10. Mon ocean
11. Silence
12. Variations sur le meme 'Tu Manques'

perfect vocals

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 13 May 2007 02:32 (A review of Histoire d'Un Amour)

I just purchased this album, and must say that, as usual, I'm very happy. Dany Brillant has a particular style and usually tends to sing kitsch songs. However, his voice is so perfect that anyone would go beyond that to just appreciate his vocal talent.

This album is just perfect. I can't find a better word for it. The tracks are all famous songs, but the musicians have given the songs a jazzy rhythm to them.
I usually don't like "remakes" (of songs or movies), but this album is simply irresistible.

Personal favorites: 1,5,6,9,11.

Tracklist:
1. Viens danser
2. Histoire d'un amour
3. Mambo italiano
4. Strangers in the night
5. Volare
6. Ay! mourir pour toi
7. You don't have to say you love me
8. Hava Naguila
9. Besame mucho
10. La belle vie
11. Buona sera
12. Les moulins de mon coeur

a discovery

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 13 May 2007 12:46 (A review of Storm Front)

Some years ago I heard the song _We didn't start the fire_ and immediately fell in love with it. It was (and still is) brilliant. I adored the music (still do), and ever since then, I've been a Billy Joel fan.
Great voice, wonderful music.
My favorites on the album are tracks 1,2,3,4,7. All of them though are worth listening, and the entire album is beautiful, lyrically and musically.

-----------
Tracklist:
1. That's not her style
2. We didn't start the fire
3. The downeaster "alexa"
4. I go to extremes
5. Shameless
6. Storm front
7. Leningrad
8. State of grace
9. When in Rome
10. And so it goes

a great love album

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 12 May 2007 12:25 (A review of Le Mot de Passe)

Although I am not a fan, I admit that Patricia Kaas has the best lyrics and slow music to offer on this album - especially considering that they were written by the best French songwriters and musicians : 10 songs written by Pascal Obispo and 2 by Jean-Jacques Goldman. Both being my favorite French singers, I had to get my hands on "Le Mot de Passe."

Needless to say, I was not disappointed. Only 4 songs have a real beat to them, all others being slow yet beautiful to listen to, lyrically and musically speaking. My own favorite song of this album is "Mon chercheur d'or."

a must for Cocciante fans

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 12 May 2007 12:18 (A review of Un Uomo Felice)

A special album with beautiful lyrics. What else can one expect from an artist with such talent as Cocciante ?

Some songs were originally done in French, such as "Un uomo felice" ("Un homme heureux" by William Sheller), "L'amore esiste ancora" ("L'amour existe encore" by Celine Dion) and "Sopra un preludio di Bach" ("Sur un prélude de Bach" by Maurane).
The song "I'd fly" is the English version of Cocciante's Italian "Per lei" which he also did in French, "Pour elle."

Nevertheless, the Italian versions are just as beautiful musically and lyrically speaking. (Cocciante is one of the best Italian composers and songwriters.)

Cocciante is accompanied in this album by talented Italian female singers, such as Mina, Giorgia, Cecilia Bartoli and Mietta. There are many different sounds from rap to romance to jazz to rock. Enough to satisfy everyone's taste. A (rare) definite must for all Cocciante admirers !

romantic album, gives hope to his singin

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 12 May 2007 12:16 (A review of Juste Avant)

Different from everything Patrick has done so far. The song "Elle voulait tout" reminds me of Nicolas Peyrac's lyrics and music. "Juste avant" offers romantic songs, with nevertheless a certain beat; lyrics that make sense. "Au Café des Délices," "Au bout de la marelle," "Pour La Vie," and "Trois Ans et Demi" are splendid; and what can one say of "Nunca mas" in duet with the great Nilda Fernandez.
-----
Un album à écouter avec... délice.

excellent

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 12 May 2007 12:13 (A review of On Partira)

A new artist who can look forward to a long career, if all goes well. Vocals similar to Jean-Jacques Goldman, but with his own charisma and personality. A romantic album with a few good beats, among which a great hit if the next single (Mal de toi). In any case, this is an album to discover immediately. This is his first album, and is the best of them all... so far.
-------

shame for France

Posted : 1 year, 1 month ago on 12 May 2007 12:00 (A review of Entre Deux)

An unbearable cd, though 2 songs out of 24 are not bad: the duet with Aznavour and the one with Aubert. By doing this cd, Bruel proves that he has never been able to sing; and most of all that he is an embarrassment to France when singing such classics. An album to be avoided at all costs; buy at your own risk, if you wish to bust your ears.
-----
