clichéd but funny

Posted : 16 years, 4 months ago on 28 December 2007 06:06 (A review of The Class)

This is the story of a bunch of guys and girls who meet 20 years after being in the same third grade class. Soon enough, Kyle, Richie, Ethan, Nicole, Duncan, Cat, Holly and Lina will discover what their lives have become.

Funny dialogue. Yes it is clichéd and predictable, but so what? It's funny at least, unlike so many other sitcoms out there.
It's well done and I find the actors are performing rather well.

An underrated tv show.
Excellent material.

"just" funny

Posted : 16 years, 4 months ago on 15 December 2007 08:42 (A review of Shrek the Third)

Upon King Harold's death, Shrek becomes the heir of Far Far Away. Not wanting to give up his swamp, he, with the help of Donkey and Puss in Boots, will search for the other heir, Artie. Meanwhile, pregnant Princess Fiona and her girlfriends try to prevent Prince Charming in becoming the new king.

The way I see it:
Shrek 1 was hilarious.
Shrek 2 was pretty funny.
Shrek 3 was "just" funny.

So, not the best of the lot. It has its moments. Some funny lines. Although I do sincerely hope this is the last of the lot for Shrek (let's give this sequel a rest!!!), this is a nice movie for kids. They'll laugh for sure.

too predictable

Posted : 16 years, 4 months ago on 15 December 2007 08:24 (A review of License to Wed)

I must say that I really forced myself to watch the remainder of the movie, after those mechanical babies showed up. (I'm glad, Prelude76, that we have the same opinion on this!) That was just stupid.

As for the rest of the script, well, like Voxy writes, it's "far too predictable" indeed. I also had a hard time laughing, because everything really is just pathetic.

Characters are actually annoying, and yes, Robert Williams is *not* good in this film. Yes, you read correctly: he is *not* good in this film.

Don't waste your time. Unless that's all you have left to do :)

low-quality action

Posted : 16 years, 4 months ago on 15 December 2007 08:07 (A review of First Snow)

Guy Pearce is Jimmy Starks, a salesman, who wanders in to get his fortune told (fortuneteller played by J. K. Simmons). Sceptical, Jimmy doesn't believe what the fortune teller says to him. But soon enough the predictions having come true, Jimmy returns, and is told that he will soon die, but that he is safe until the first snow.

So many possibilities with the script. So little development. Such an interesting story, yet something was missing in the entire film.

Actors worthy of note though. Simmons and Pearce always excellent.

I suppose if you have money to throw away, and really want to watch a low-quality action movie, this might as well be it.

Quebec's "Fast and Furious"

Posted : 16 years, 4 months ago on 15 December 2007 07:55 (A review of Nitro)

A car race gone wrong, Mad Max ends up in a hospital, where he meets Alice, who has a fragile heart, and recently gave birth to Theo. Nine years later, Julien (aka Mad Max), Alice and Theo are a family, although Alice is now in the hospital awaiting a heart transplant. Julien promises Theo that he will save her life, and will do anything to find an organ donor, even if it means killing a man.

Lemay-Thivierge (Max/Julien) is an excellent actor here, as is Lucie Laurier. They make a fantastic team. Martin Matte, a comedian, is a pleasant discovery as an actor.

The script, of course, doesn’t hold in place, but then again, neither did The Fast and The Furious! Speaking of which, NITRO covers the same grounds (car racing), in a different setting: Montreal and the South Shore.

Still, this is a fun action-filled, entertaining movie for guys *and* gals, to watch.

worthy of note

Posted : 16 years, 4 months ago on 15 December 2007 07:48 (A review of The Bridge on the River Kwai)

WW II. British prisoners of war are ordered to build a bridge to accommodate the Burma-Siam railway.

I had never seen this classic in its entirety until recently.
While the story certainly had more impact upon its release, the movie still is worth watching for the actors, the director’s work, the script and the photography.

This is a beautiful classic, which should never be overlooked or missed.

must see

Posted : 16 years, 4 months ago on 15 December 2007 07:45 (A review of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest)

Until today, I had never seen this film, despite its fame as a classic. I must say I am surprised that I enjoyed it so much.

This, by far, is in my opinion, Nicholson’s best performance. When you have a great cast and a wonderful director, it’s hard to go wrong! A definite must see.

something missing

Posted : 16 years, 4 months ago on 15 December 2007 07:44 (A review of The Notorious Bettie Page)

The movie shows the ups and downs of Bettie Page’s life.

The actors are good by my standards.

The script is much too predictable to my liking.

This is still worthy of note if you’re into movies covering the 1950s era. I just felt something was missing to really be an attention-grabbing film.

too slow

Posted : 16 years, 4 months ago on 15 December 2007 07:41 (A review of The White Massai)

A woman abandons her life, her loved ones, and comes to live in Africa with the Massai she met and fell in love with, during a trip. She questions her life and her choices.

The movie is slow, too slow for what it could be. The actors are all right.

Unfortunately the movie goes nowhere.

It does offer beautiful images but other than that, I found it a waste of time.

my shortest review ever

Posted : 16 years, 5 months ago on 21 November 2007 02:29 (A review of Dead Letter Office)

In brief, this film should be called

DEAD MOVIE
-----
A slightly longer review:

The premise was intriguing. (Girl seeks to find her long-lost father while working in the "Dead Letter Office" and following procedures to deliver "dead" or almost-lost letters/parcels.)

The acting was bad, the directing worse. If that's possible, the script was even worse than that.

Don't bother.
