Selma review

BAM, that was quite an opening! This is definitely worth watching: directing, performance, costume, sets, etc. I'm not old enough to know much on or about Martin Luther King so unsure on accuracy (hence the rating), Yet this remains an eye opener, as I suspect it'll be for most viewers.

The Imitation Game review

To paraphrase a friend... "The film simplifies his character to a point that borders on offensive. But even if you ignore the historical inaccuracies, it simply emphasizes the wrong parts of his fascinating, yet tragic life. It's slick, but hollow where it counts." Cumberbatch's performance is most excellent, can't see anyone else in this role.

American Sniper review

A decent, compelling, troubling film, based on the real life of legendary sniper Chris Kyle. Strong performances by Sienna Miller and Bradley Cooper. Decent directing by Clint Eastwood.
(On a personal note, this actually isn't my genre of film, but from a professional POV, it deserves a high 'grade'.)

Unbroken review

Can't think of a better title for this film, because that's exactly what it is, the story of an unbroken man, despite what he's been through as a POW in Japan. Nothing else stood out in the entire film. It's just another film about war. But worth watching.

A Most Violent Year review

I'm still waiting for something to happen here... It's not violent - what's with this title? Depicted events are lifeless. I'm not sure what I even just watched. It's drab, lifeless, not even entertaining. Characters are just plain dull.

Mr. Turner review

An incredible magnificent masterpiece with a most wonderful cast.

Big Eyes review

The few scenes with Tim Burton (TB) influence are very Burton-esque. But I felt it still lacked somehow in TB influence, it could have been much more, yet it was slightly dull without more TB. Nonetheless quite an entertaining, funny, enjoyable film with the ideal cast.

Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014) review

Seriously? What a farce. Worst directing and acting ever (unless it was intentional). We laughed through the entire thing as it was so preposterous, its ending was so predictably dumb and the script, rather pathetic and thin.

Inherent Vice (2014) review

With over 150 minutes, the script went absolutely nowhere. Plain old useless blah.

Cake review

Glum depressive tale of a woman captivated by a friend's suicide. JA performs well but the story told takes way too much time to build up and get anywhere (which it doesn't really do).
