surprisingly good

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 8 May 2007 03:25 (A review of Déjà Vu)

I just sat down to watch this, with family.
What we expected: a typical Hollywood action-packed blockbuster with a great idea, destroyed in all ways possible.
What we got: an interesting somewhat plausible - still a little predictable - script, decent actors (no Oscar nominations here), great action, and a clever twist.
Fun entertainment, but if you pay attention to the details from the start, you'll have the ending figured all out.

best ever

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 7 May 2007 11:15 (A review of Will & Grace)

Honestly, I haven't seen a tv show as good as this, since Cheers (and I'm young to like Cheers!). Anyway. Will & Grace - you either love them, or hate them. Same with their friends, Karen & Jack. The humor is amazingly, well, hilarious; the cast and the guest appearances are just wonderful. It was a blast to see notable appearances by stars such as Demi Moore, Madonna, Michael Douglas, Matt Damon, Jeff Goldblum, Lee Majors, Dylan McDermott, Rosie O'Donnell, Victor Garber, Lily Tomlin, Gene Wilder - only to name but 'a few'. And recurring characters played by Debbie Reynolds, Woody Harrelson, Harry Connick Jr, John Cleese, Bobby Cannavale, Gregory Hines, Minnie Driver... were a blast to see. (Let's not forget those stars that also played themselves: Kevin Bacon, Candice Bergen, Cher, Janet Jackson, Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Barry Manilow, and again, many more.)
There are many great one-liners in the entire 8 seasons that the show lasted, and like other fans, I was sad to see the show end. But all good things must come to an end - or do they... I'll keep watching this on dvd over and over, and I'll still laugh.

still laughing...

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 7 May 2007 09:58 (A review of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen)

This was a total disaster. I actually went to see this with my family when it came out in theaters. None of us could stop laughing it was so lame. Total disaster. Total waste of our time, and money. It was really too bad because we liked the actors. That it sucks so much is probably due to the fact the producers had to make some major changes, because of budget restrictions. During some scenes, if you're careful enough when watching (IF you really want to dare), you'll notice the cardboard scenery. That's how bad this film was. A shameful film in Connery's excellent career.

one of the best

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 7 May 2007 09:44 (A review of Six Feet Under)

Six Feet Under has to be one of the best ideas ever created for a television series. What can you expect but satire and dark comedy in a show that revolves around a funeral parlor family... Brilliantly written and directed. Funny, dramatic, melodramatic... You either love it, or hate it.
My only reason for not voting this 10/10: I didn't care for the series' finale, I thought it could have been waaay better, but it certainly still remains a great series to watch at least once in your lifetime. Give it a chance, if you haven't yet!

way overrated

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 7 May 2007 07:57 (A review of Amélie)

I really do not understand what the whole fuss is about, regarding this film. It's a sappy story if there is one, it's certainly not the most beautiful film out there (yes, the photography is good [hence my 1 full star of 2 points]), but Audrey Tautou has *no personality whatsoever*. Her acting in every single film is the same, she has but two expressions to her face. As for this movie, its meaning is lost on me. Jeunet's film City of Lost Children had more meaning, consistency and character than this film, which has zero value. (Amelie, or rather The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain as its original title was, is definitely not coming in my movie collection.) It was a waste of time, and all 8 of us watching this together when it came out on dvd actually voted to fast-forward the movie as the acting was unbearable!

great isn't enough

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 7 May 2007 07:23 (A review of Stand By Me (Special Edition))

Great isn't enough of a word to describe this film.
While I'm not a fan of Stephen King, this certainly deserved a chance, especially considering this is _not_ one of his gory stories. (I really don't care for the horror genre.) I remember watching this when I was a kid, and today I still love it. I can't imagine any other actors playing those roles, and they seem to get better every time I watch this! The movie is just brilliant, well-directed, and unforgettable. The soundtrack is awesome.

a brilliant gem

Posted : 16 years, 11 months ago on 7 May 2007 07:23 (A review of Stand by Me)

I remember watching this when I was a kid, and today I still love it.

This film is beautifully adapted for the screen (from a Stephen King non-horror short story), and the chosen cast is amazing, from Keifer Sutherland to Jerry O’Connor and River Phoenix, who here give their best performances ever. I can't imagine any other actors playing those roles, and they seem to get better every time I watch this!

The movie depicts the fears, games, catchphrases, debates and secrets by four young boys. The story doesn’t look intriguing at all, but what comes out of it – the characters’ friendship – is simply brilliant and well-portrayed by director Rob Reiner.

The movie is just brilliant, well-directed, and unforgettable. And the soundtrack is awesome.
